As a marathoner and aspiring triathlete doing things that some find to be crazy is just a part of who I am. Thus, upon hearing about this opportunity to climb Mount Kili while raising money for the American Cancer Society I knew I had to join. The lives of my family members and friends have been shaped drastically by the threat of cancer and I am more than ecstatic to be a part of this team. I look forward to trading in my running shoes for hiking boots!!
And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all the name of Lord Jesus giving thanks through Him to God the Father. Colossians 3:17

 Phil and Sadie
" Phil and I are both extremely excited to be a part of this journey for many reasons. Not only will it be an amazing adventure, but we'll also be helping in the fight against cancer with every step.
I've never really been a huge fan of cancer but I really began to hate it when my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer my freshman year of college. I watched her fight it and beat it, (it didn't stand a chance against her) throughout the year. Since then it seems the "c-word" has popped up in many aspects of my life. I watched one of my best friends fight (and beat) leukemia the next year and I was diagnosed with melanoma the following year! Now I am working at the American Cancer Society planning Relay for Life events at colleges and I couldn't be happier with where I am.
This project is such a wonderful opportunity that neither Phil or I could even think about passing up. We look forward to this adventure of a lifetime and chance to help kick cancer's butt."

 Paul and Linda
"Inspired by the support of family and friends over
the last ten years, we now challenge ourselves to give back and encourage others to live life to its fullest. What better way to celebrate Linda's ten years of being cancer-free than to join an adventure of a lifetime. In our hearts (and backpacks) we will carry the names of family and friends who have been touched by cancer. For ourselves, and those whom we love, we meet this challenge head on and
celebrate the gift of life. Carpe Diem!"
Artruc’s Fund Raising Success Stories
In December of 2006, I held a birthday party for Linda. We were not only celebrating Linda's 40th birthday, but, more importantly, celebrating her 10th year of being cancer-free. In lieu of gifts, guests were asked to bring items for a raffle to raise money for Linda's Relay for Life team. Much to our surprise, 1155.00 was raised from the raffle alone, with another 1350.00 received in donations to the American Cancer Society. At about the same time, we heard about Journeys of Inspiration and decided that the 1155.00 would be for the Relay for Life team and 1350.00 would be the start of our JOI fundraising efforts!
In January of this year, we held fund raising events with some of our co-workers. Through these efforts, we raised about 1,300.00!
Again, in March, we raised 200.00 with another fund raising event with friends and co-workers.
In April of this year, we received a phone call from Linda's niece
Kathleen Swift, who is a student at Quinnepiac College in Connecticut.
She and some other students conceived, created, and designed a calendar
with photos of campus life and sold them to raise money for the American Cancer Society. The calendar was dedicated to Linda and all those whose lives have been affected by Breast Cancer. Her tremendous efforts with this project produced 800.00.
In addition, we have received unsolicited donations from friends and
family who have received word of our involvement with JOI - putting our
current total at 4120.00!
Linda and I look forward to blowing the doors off of our 5000.00
donation minimum in the coming months!

"Over the past 3 years, my girlfriend has gone through both stomach cancer and breast cancer. Those experiences were a severe trial but they drew us closer together. It made us realize that every moment we spend together is a precious moment, not to be wasted or neglected. It also made cancer a personal issue, not simply a general problem."
