About one year after completing my treatment for breast cancer Rick and a leadership group from pack paddle ski snow shoed up Mt Marcy, the highest peak in the Adirondacks. It turned out to be a beautiful, sunny day. The joy of breathing in fresh air, with the sun on my face was indescribable.
The peak represented my accomplishment of completely finishing all my treatment of surgery, chemotherapy and radiation and a renewal of my ability to enjoy the outdoors.
The snowshoeing showed what you can accomplish step by slow step in the company of friends who support you.

I've included the short person in my life who has been my inspiration and kept me going these past couple of years. This picture was taken in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina in September this year. I might add, that short person is a great little hiker! This is our granddaughter, Katie!
Here's my quote:
"For all those whom I love so much, let me live this moment with the love, the hope, and the passion that God has given me. And, may your life be rich with loved-filled living."

"Cancer and climbing are all about walking in life,
not just walking through it".

 Matt & Charmagne
" Both Charmagne and I are thrilled to be a part of this exciting new program for a number of reasons.
First and foremost for myself, it is due to the fact that cancer is a very real concern in our family. With survivors now out numbering those who we have lost, I am happy to give back!
For Charmagne the cause is broader in scope. Having two young girls it is vitally important to teach them that at times we will all seek and offer support, and that we are expected to give back to the broader community.
We are both comfortable with the notion that volunteerism is the price we pay to live in such a great community."

"Hiking the High Peaks is to behold views that only a small number of people in the World experience. Our quest is to encourage others to experience, no matter how Big or Small the mountain."
I have been retired from Eastman Kodak for 5 years now. My wife Patty and I have three sons that are all all grown up (sorta of). My oldest Son and Daughter-in-law have provided us with 4 lovely grandchildren and another on the way.
My passion for hiking "High Peaks" started in the year 2000 when Jim Thies talked me into hiking Mt. Washington. I was hooked immediately and have enjoyed many "High Peak" adventures with Jim as we completed the Adirondac 46ers and other high peaks around the country.
I have been touched by Cancer through the loss of several loved ones, high school classmates, coworkers, and most recently with Jim.
Since I joined this Journey's of Inspiration project I have been amazed an in awe of the people I have met on our team. I am so happy to be part of this adventure and look forward to meeting everyone and getting to know you all.

"At the age of 21, I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. As one can imagine, it took me a very long time to grasp the complexity of its effect on my life. Being seven years older and 8+ months pregnant, I reflect daily on the profound impact this disease has had on me- it has given me a perspective on life filled with gratuity for all I have experienced.
In participating in the Cancer Project and the Kili Climb, I will be able to share my gratefulness by raising money to help beat this disease, allowing others to experience a life they may not have had. It also give me the opportunity to take advantage of a life I may not have had!"
