THERE ARE TWO PARTS TO THE FUNDRAISING
1) Raising funds for American Cancer Society
and
2) Raising funds for your cost
RAISING DONATIONS FOR THE AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY
(These donations are made out to the American Cancer Society and are tax deductible)
$2500
need to be raised as a donation. Most people found this easier then
they thought. Some people raised over $13,000 in 9 months.
HOW DO I RAISE THIS?
Each person develops their own method. Our job is to help offer you tools, support and ideas
Methods people used ( we will get you more specifics if you like)
a. networking those around them
b. corporate sponsorship. Many had employers assistance
c. selling JOI items such as tshirts
d. organizing events such as benefit concerts, golf tournaments.
e. organizations they were involved in helped them
f. "Honor a Star" This was huge and easy, people just went online, sent a loved one to Africa the money was applied to your ACS account
g. many other ideas
PERSONAL FUNDRAISING (these funds are made out to Pack Paddle Ski and may be deductible. Check with your financial adviser. If you itemize the trip cost and airfare has been deductible in the past)
1) You can pay your entire ground cost
or
2) 3/4 of last years climbers raised some of their costs. This helped them contribute to the overall ACS goal and get to Africa. You will be in the time honored tradition of explorers for centuries. Most of them had sponsors.
a. Fund raise yourself
You can make use of the down loadable resources those who went before created. There are letters, cards, brochures and more you can use. View their list of who helped them for ideas. You can sell tshirts, wrist bands and other items. Many people had the network of those closest to them support them. Some sponsors covered the whole cost.
b. Join the fundraising team. Here you commit with others to work together to raise a prescribed amount by joining, creating and running various fundraising ideas.
40 people have gone before you and did it. Most were people like you. Most could not believe it was possible when they started. Yet they all went to Africa. Part of the wonder of the project is it is into the realm of believing and making that leap. This creates many surprising moments.
You are not alone. There will be a whole community that will work for up to a year to be joined together before and in Africa.
Wait until you have started fundraising and people start to
hear of your plans. Stories of strength
and survivorship will begin to find you.
Not every cancer story ends with a happy ending, but all who are touched
by this disease, no matter how, no matter the out come, all hold out HOPE for a
better day, a day when cancer begins to loose its strength. Your efforts, the dollars you raise and the
story of our climb will act to support this all-important need, the need for
HOPE.
We here at Your American Cancer Society stand ready to help
guide and support you along the path of fund raising. We look forward to meeting you, and hearing
your stories as you progress in this inspiring journey.
