Kili Climber's Prayer
Our Father, we place the Kili
climbers in your hands as they pursue this
courageous, awesome journey of Care, Concern
and Hope.
Protect them and guide them up the heights,
Keep them safe from all dangers.
Dazzle them with the majestic beauty of creation.
Bless them as they place the names of friends, family
and loved ones in the hallowed place.
Celebrate with them as they reach their goal.
We pray for their safety as they return
a different way, physically, emotionally and spiritually.
Help us to be ever grateful to them for
their heroic efforts for all people.
We ask these favors in Your Holy Name.
Amen
Visualize a stream of people . . . .
whose lives have been affected by cancer joining from all four directions on the highest point in Africa, Kilimanjaro at sunrise. They are there to celebrate the struggles, the courage of spirit, and the sharing of community. They are there to spread hope to the world. They can not make this climb alone; nor can we live on this planet isolated in our countries. The sharing of the climb with the Africans that assist us, the community at home supporting the climbers, and the climbers themselves step Out of Africa for at least a brief period to demonstrate what is possible in a world community. A dramatic and highly emotional event such as people from all sides of Kilimanjaro is but one component of this project. Local outdoor adventures and community groups are another. This project is about community, healthy lives, connection, beauty, hope, and celebration.
MISSION
To create a community of people whose lives have been affected by Cancer
To strive to develop support for each other, spread awareness, fund the Cancer fight and celebrate the beauty and goodness in life
STRATEGY
Utilizing the awe and beauty of nature, the inspiring challenges it can provide as well as the healing qualities of its peace and beauty to create a community of people to celebrate and reinforce the goodness in life, we strive to use “journeys" facilitated and designed to support the mission. The journeys may include group activities and challenges in the natural world. It is the sharing as a community the successes and struggles in life. In 2008 there are three nearby journeys. These events will include a canoe/kayak, a bike ride and a hike in beautiful Letchworth Gorge. The year culminates February 14-March 02, 2009 in the Kili climb.
